Day 8: Yellowstone, WY to Whitefish, MT - 435 Miles

Our mission for the morning was to get out of the park at 11am. Mission accomplished (by 1 minute). Our second mission was to find an Arkansas license plate: Mission accomplished by hawk eye Molly who stood like a state trooper inspecting every car exiting/entering the park.
Our drive out of the park was highlighted by the caravan of Buffalo. They lined up, mother at the front, some other hoochie mommy next to her, a young buffalo and his older brother finally followed by the daddy buffalo. They held up traffic for the oncoming cars for a while. The Buffalo Whisperer leaned out of the car to shoot video of the small posse. Molly did attribute the daddy to be the stink of the day.
The ride into Montana was excellent. I happened to be on the phone with my brother Peter when we crested over a mountain to see a beautiful vista of a lake and sprawling mountain range. The image is etched in my mind and I will be seeking it out again on my next trip to the region.
We arrived at Jen’s uncle Paul’s house after 8pm. He welcomed us with Margaritas and a great dinner. The 12 people landing at his doorstep did not faze him at all. Paul’s place is beautiful and accommodated all of us easily.
For all of you wondering, we identified this stop as a critical stop for our laundry. As you may have read earlier, the A and B bags were now empty and the D bag was full. If you have no idea what I am saying, please read the ‘How to Pack’ section. Jen and Meg did 5 loads of laundry. In fact, Jen set her alarm to wake her up 35 minutes after falling asleep. OUCH! I offered to help but I slept through the alarm.

  1. The license plate game reminds me of when you guys would try and find all the flags you could in Aus.
