Day 13: Napa, CA to Las Vegas - 549 Miles

Breakfast was great at the hotel. Gregory and William made sure we got out money’s worth at the buffet line. Greg was hungover from the wedding. He was on a first name basis with the bartenders as he bellied up to the bar all night drinking root beer. Over-serving an adult is a scary to the public, over-serving a pre-schooler is scary to the family.
We opted to not hit Tom and Lisa’s on the way out of town. The 500+ mile trip after sleeping in and eating a big breakfast was too daunting. I am sure the ribs will be as good as they were for Molly’s wedding.
The first few hours of the trip were lonely. Betsy is scheduled to fly to Boston tomorrow from California. Meg and Jim stayed at a hotel 30 miles from us so we hit the road independent of each other in hopes of meeting by Bakersfield (which we were able to do).
A few days earlier we arrived at Yellowstone after 11. We arrived after 11 again today. However, it was so bright in Vegas, we needed shades. Most of the kids were sleeping as we drove down the strip. They quickly woke up to the fountains at the Bellagio. Liam loved the New York, New York casino. Molly wanted to stay at the Eifel Tower. And, Greg wanted to stay at the castle and get more root beer. We were very happy to give the kids a view of Las Vegas without losing any money gambling.
The heat today was crazy. 108 was the high we saw in Southern California. We arrived at 11:15 and it was 87. Each day in the car, we guess what the arriving temperature will be when we arrive. Everyone has 1 correct except for Greg and me. Greg has 6 right (4 exact), and I have 0. Tomorrow we are up early and head to Zion National Park. Phase II is underway.
It is hard to believe that we are back home a week from today. Boy, was this a fast adventure.
